I middle-clicked (mouse wheel) the link and the tab opened fine. I switched back and forth between the tabs and all was well. (Windows 10 using Chrome)

Even in 1891, New York was “progressive”. I highly doubt that there is a racial double entendre here.

I hear “oh bugger me” (literally ‘fuck me’) more than I hear “bugger” from my UK friends.

When thinking of “gyped” think of the term “jewed”. You wouldn’t say either (one would think - although I hear both way too much). Just replace them with what the others already said “screwed, ripped-off, scammed, cheated, etc.”

U.S. slang phrase up the river “in prison” (1891) is originally in reference to Sing Sing prison, which was literally “up the (Hudson) river” from New York City.

Unless it is done by a family member/spouse, then only to the weak-minded. I’ve been called horribly awful things - racist remarks, remarks on my physical appearance, etc. Unless you are in my inner circle (spouse, close family, close friends), then your opinion means exactly freaking zero to me.

And that’s pretty much how 17 year old me drove mine. I loved that little money pit!

I do. I have a full-time office job, but I also have a ranch. I have to pick up 1,000 lbs of feed every week for my livestock. We won’t even get into all of the upkeep, fencing, etc. So, yeah, I actually make my truck work.

PuTTY is the bomb! Clean, simple, easy to use.

I had an ‘83 original Rabbit GTI and loved that little POS! Everything under the hood said “Porsche” on it, but it was still a beater VW. It would top out around 90 mph, but would make a city street 90 degree turn at 60 mph (I was 17 years old, don’t ask). Such a fun car!

A pet peeve of mine: people that feel the need to say, “bless you” after a sneeze when you’re in a meeting, theater, lecture, etc. It is bad enough that we couldn’t hear what we are trying (or paid to in a meeting, or *paying* to in a lecture) to hear due to the sneeze, but now it is compounded by 1, 2, 50 people

I wholeheartedly endorse this! In fact, there is a small theater near where I used to live in north Texas that still has the manager introduce the movie and puts an intermission in. I loved that place! I simply cannot make it through a movie w/o having a pee break (well, I could, if I didn’t buy a bucket of Coke or

A Tempur-Pedic split king literally saved my marriage. She has her half. I have my half. If we want “us time” we both click one button and it goes to a flat king. The rest of the time, we keep our sides at the angle we want. Expensive but SO WORTH IT!! (Why did it take us 15 years to figure this out???)

You can’t forget the Klitchko/Fury fight. That was the most epic heavyweight battle in years.

I completely concur. She is a horrible human being. That isn’t enough to be incarcerated (or I’d be gone long, long ago!). I can see conspiracy to commit murder before involuntary homicide. There is no such thing as “conspiracy to commit suicide” on the books. Frankly, she shouldn’t have been held criminally

I got a little excited when I first read that as, “that’s the studio where Bill Maher was shot”. Alas, I still have my dreams. . .

I’ve both seen it happen and have *made* it happen.

Heck, I was in a meeting not long ago where Person X said, “It is only an expenditure of $120,000.”

My retort, “Yes, that is 120,000 taxpayers’ dollars that we have both a fiduciary and moral responsibility to spend wisely or not spend at all.”

Said line-item was struck

I actually wish they would. It would reduce waste and increase accountability.

You can’t do that with the military since you cannot define what the product is. Is it “Peace”? “Security”? “Bombs on target”? “Bullets in heads”? But you can certainly do it with the bureaucratic agencies.

As someone who works for the government and knows exactly how much all of my coworkers make, this concept is odd to me.
