I think it is really helpful to know how authors thought when reading their works. I mean, Lovecraft’s works are totally different when you know how xenophobic he was, but also how many other serious psychological and personal issues he was dealing with. Same with Howard, and of course, Huxley.

It is a sad, and somewhat meta, commentary on the point of this article that when I saw the description of the series on Netflix, the main character was described as an "ice queen". Way to show respect for the female lead, Netflix.
