@badweasel: I've been using VLC to play .avi files on my 3GS and it works great.

@MifuneT: When I went through Driver's Ed in 1992 in WA State, this very thing was recommended. Fortunately I haven't had to test it yet (knock on wood).

A couple biggies for me would be LastPass and Gmail/Google Voice extensions.

Wait, if we don't post any of those pictures, what the hell is YouFace and MyBook good for?

@707kevin: Wow! Having those earth movers in the foreground really shows the magnitude of this.

Sorry, this may be a bit off topic. However, I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of processor and RAM the Roku units have? I want a way to stream Netflix, MLB, and access local files, but the solution I'm currently using is a bit clunky. So I'm wondering if this will do a good job streaming that video with

@tw@t: I didn't know about the empty shells (then again, I've stuck to mainly playing for church).

@badasscat: The good thing with U-Haul is that you can leave the truck there after you move in.

This is a common practice in manufacturing. You can see that with things like car stereos, speakers, amps, even lightbulbs or foglights. There's only a few companies that manufacutre the parts then rebrand them for the various resellers (Sony, Alpine, Kicker, etc).

@Julio Allison: Thank you. that actually made me laugh out loud. At work.

@jok: I've wondered that too. The processor in the Torch is s schoch better than the 3GS and if you're not playing a bunch of games (i.e. "Need for Speed"), it will probably perform great. Although your guess is as good as mine. I haven't been into a store to look at one.

@EBone: One thing is certain; Apple changed the way we use our smartphones. I had the Curve and the Treo 650 before getting the 1st Gen iPhone. Even then I used those phones more for the physical keyboard for texting. I didn't even have the required data plans and didn't care to. I had a few games on there

@uncle_jojo: I also think that the issue is with the performance. Since RIM was trying to sell this as a competitor to some of the top end smart phones, a 1GHz processor and comparable RAM possibly could've made it a contender. Now, I'm speaking as one who still has a 3GS and not one of the newer smart phones (and

I want to work for a company that has that much free time.

@mnerd: I tried using it as a project management tool with my small web design company. I really wanted to like it as well. However, we found that email was much easier and actually more efficient. Particularly since I have filters and such setup w/Gmail and we use Dropbox to stash all of our files. Maybe if we

The two sites I'm interested in it working on: Hulu and Netflix won't work (3GS). Safari just crashes when I try to load Hulu. Netflix won't play because the phone is too underpowered (requires a 1.2 GHz processor). Bummer.

The earlier post about making an iPad version of Netflix work on a Jailbroken iPhone got me thinking. Could the same thing be done with this?

@Fauxy Affliction: Or wait a couple days and they'll have it all straightened out. I've been Jailbreaking since my 1st Gen iPhone and while the initial stages can be buggy, they always get it stable really quickly.
