To be fair… that shit in Flight was pretty damn silly.

No, probably not.

Just do it, no one will ever know…

Do it. I don't think the movie comes together as a whole in the end, but there are individual scenes that are extremely memorable. Not a wasted experience by any means.

All those scenes you mentioned were indeed awesome. Although lets give the junkies credit. The scene where they try to have a discussion while sliding in and out of consciousness from their high is pretty awesome.

I thought James was a major problem with it, for exactly what people seem to be mentioning on IMDB. He was pointless. The whole story is about how gangsters are as down-on-their-luck as anybody and how desperate and pathetic everyone has become. Did his character have to come in and reinforce what is basically the

That too!

A total audio/visual exercise, so you are right, it's pretty empty. I still dug it though.

What do you guys think about the suggestion that Girl With the Dragon Tattoo as a modern giallo? It's got the elaborately memorable title and a twisty whodunit story with a disgraced detective hunting a uniquely morbid killer of women.

While dubs are usually avoided at all costs, for giallo I think they are a MUST. Watching an Argento film with a corny ass, scratchy dub adds to the pulpiness and makes the whole thing more fun, since we aren't supposed to take it seriously to begin with.

"enervating" - perfect word for it. I gave it a pass on Trek, but then after watching Man of Steel I got really annoyed that it had that exact 'problem'—which seems to be the new standard action movies will follow from now on. Nothing, not even exposition, or character romance can exist separate from explosions and

Both were awesome. The crowd-fav D is for Dogfight was also pretty great.

Good news for you then! Most giallos are really a middle-ground between procedurals and slashers, leaning closer to the former. Everyone follows a detective of some sort. Not until the ones after this movie do they become more like slasher splatter-fests.

Agreed. It seems like it's totally out of surprises, then BAM. It really shows how little Bava gave a shit about the plot and his willingness to just fuck around (see also: octopus slithering on dead guy's face)

Correct, it is the uncensored version.

I'd say Bava's best giallo is the first, Girl Who Knew Too Much. The style and B&W cinematography are outstanding, and it precedes the much sleazier stuff the genre got into. As for the colour stuff, Blood and Black Lace takes my vote too. THE COLOURS ARE EVERYWHERE.

So what you are saying is you're opinion is in the extreme minority

A lot of the super wide shots (Rivendale in Hobbit) are too wide to see depth. They just look flat and you're stuck with this light-dimming, face squeezing visor on.

Yeah. I'm not totally off the 3D love boat. I saw Avatar, Hugo, and Prometheus in 3D and they were all excellent in that format, and I think benefited from it.

It's like… you know me already…
