A lot of us would like to get wagons if we still could.

You aren’t wrong. They announced it over the summer: https://deadline.com/2022/07/abbott-elementary-william-stanford-davis-promoted-series-regular-abc-mr-johnson-1235072844/
Yeah, most Senate Republicans aren’t mad at the bill itself, but mad that Lindsay drew attention to their weakest position before the midterms. Unlike their state level counterparts who now actually have the power to impose abortion restrictions and thus have to face the wrath of the extremist anti-choice wing of the…
It was probably made clear to him once he was the nominee that if he wanted any support from the GOP, he had to make a statement to that effect. And like every other GOP coward, he caved in service of the attainment of power.
Definitely my favorite Smith film, honestly one of the few I actually like unequivocally.
It is “fucking consistent” with any real way that transupportive people behave. There’s a huge difference between intentionally misgendering someone and slipping up every so often. All trans/non-binary people I know aren’t that offended by the occasional slip-up from time to time, if it’s clear you weren’t…
As soon as I saw that he I knew some asshole like you was going to come into the comments whining about pronouns. AVC, particularly of late, is well known for its piss poor proofreading at this point (I might be more inclined to see it as intentional on a meticulously proofread outlet like The New Yorker, with their…
This sounds like the origin story of many a cult leader.
When the critics score diverges that wildly from the audience score, it’s more than likely due to trolls review bombing a show or movie for racist and/or sexist reasons.
All the stars, we can shut AVClub and possibly Kinja down now. It’s only downhill from here.
This is the one reason I think these polling numbers will hold more than previously rosy ones for Democrats in the past. Unlike not wanting to admit they aren’t voting for someone like HRC (as though the poller is going to care), overturning Roe has direct and immediate consequences for many of these voters.
I buy that these cool dads and suburbanites having this political awakening post-Dobbs exist. These are the same people who would always decry pro-choice activists as “hysterical” when they warned the GOP would take away abortion, because they genuinely believed Roe would hold.
I think they just don’t really consider her as a real member of the house.
It would unlikely be considered fair use since the church was marketing as an authorized production of the original show. If they changed the name to Jesulton or something that would be different.
The laws are working exactly the way the forced birth advocates intended. Make it difficult enough to get an abortion from a doctor so that people either carry the fetus to term or when it dies before birth or go to extremes like in this story (likely committing crimes in the process).
But they don’t mind having Amazon pay them $250m to further commercialize them? I doubt we are going to ever get a better filmed version of LOTR than Jackson’s. To the extent it differed or “wasn’t as good as” the books, that is mostly due to the fact that film and tv are different mediums. A truly faithful adaptation…
Batgirl was cancelled for some complicated tax/accounting reasons I don’t really understand (but there are often opportunities for tax/accounting arbitrage shortly after a merger). I don’t think they would be able to do that with The Flash (once again I don’t know what the tax reasons are, but I guess The Flash…
“I have been blown away by how almost everything on apple TV deserves to exist and comes from a place of someone actually trying to make something special. They seem to make shows because they believe they could be great rather than to fill some algorithmic niche and really pursue some left field projects.”
The programming team at Apple is truly among the best working right now. Admittedly they are helped by Apple’s massive budget, hands-off approach, and the fact a lot of content creators are fleeing Netflix as fast as they can, but it’s still impressive.
I mean Apple is just kind of doing what Netflix did when it first started creating its own programming. Throw lots of money at a smaller number of projects spearheaded by a head of programming with good taste and nurture them regardless of ratings. Now Netflix just throws less money at a lot more shows and is less…
