Well, Boyer was probably thinking that. I’m sure Kaepernick knew that the reaction of most conservative white people would be the same no matter what.

Because grandstanding about unimportant shit is how they get elected.
True Patriots will stand for the flag on Super Bowl Sunday.
My wife is a horse person (I know, I know, fite me IRL) because she grew up in Montana. I went to a horse show with her a few years ago and the rendition of the anthem started off with some southern dude talking about an unknown “she” and how beautiful it was when “she” was windblown, how statuesque “she” was, blah…
Whereas, the American Flag is the greatest symbol of freedom the world has ever known, standing for life, liberty, the American dream and the millions of American men and women who fought, and died, to defend it
South Carolina certainly didn’t feel this interested in standing for the US flag a little over 150 years ago.
Kinja took my old name away, which is sad, but I do like my new one a lot, too. If only I could get out of the damn grays.
Oh, and any time anybody chooses to equate the word “criticize” with “attack” (or similar English word of violent connotation that used to mean “attack”), one should wonder: uh, who’s bein’ the “snowflake” here, bruh...?
I don’t think anyone is throwing Atwood under the bus. But no one gets a lifetime feminist pass, after the receipt of which none of their behavior or statements can ever be questioned. The feminist movement has been riddled with racism and bigotry since it started, and many feminist heroes are tainted by that reality.…
Okay, they don’t. But someone else does. Just because one person is okay with being treated a certain way doesn’t give them the right to treat everyone else that way if they don’t want to be treated in that fashion. I mean that isn’t the explicit terms of the golden rule, but I really don’t think anyone would say that…
Sure. But let’s be honest, the intent of the golden rule was never “I’m fine with being treated poorly, so you should be too!”
Yeah, but how often does that claim really hold up to scrutiny? I get the very strong impression that those complaints, if we were to view the jokes people were actually complaining about, boil down to “this college got all pissy about my misogynist/racist/homophobic joke, and that usually KILLS in the clubs I play. …
Is all criticism an attack?
Right, but there’s a huge gulf between “publicly disagreeing” and “ideological totalitarianism”.
Its funny how often “PC culture” is often just “don’t be an asshole”.
Both Atwood and Greer have said things worthy of criticism, though. Are they supposed to get a free pass on everything they say for the rest of their lives?
But think how lame comedy has gotten since it became less socially acceptable to make fun of minorities, women, the disabled and the marginalized.
I have always viewed political correctness as a modern extension of the Golden Rule. But I guess “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is a pretty rotten message to pass on to the next generation. A world where everyone contemplates how their words and actions affect others would be a pretty terrible…
