Also, in terms of Floyd making money, as Albert commenter Veeg points out, Floyd broke free of the necessity of going through a Don King or Bob Arum, who’d syphon away 50% or so of the purse through his cut, fees and various kickbacks. In that respect alone, he gets plaudits from me.

Mayweather is one of the few athletes that receives exactly what the market offers. PPV buys go directly into his pocket: There’s no Goodell or Dana White. The WBO/WBC/IBF isn’t taking a cut for the owners. LA/NYC (Mayweather) doesn’t have to share revenue with Memphis (Malignaggi, Cotto, etc.).
