Now I got Worry was the first JSBX album I listened to. I got it in a mass-purchase of CDs from groups I knew I should listen to, but hadn’t yet. I slapped it into my player and got my headphones on, thinking to myself, “let’s see what this band is all about.” Then came that glorious, ear-shattering scream.

It makes me sorta sad that their ambition led them to a distinctly smoother, discoier sound post-Handcream. Sometimes the best thing to do is just slap the original Hold On It Hurts and go fucking crazy about how they daringly collided punkish impulses with eastern sounds and ideas.

I’ll go with Holidays in the Sun from Never Mind the Bollocks and then Summer Babe off Slanted and Enchanted.

I remember somebody wrote a Dawes-themed version of Linus’ “I’ll tell you what Christmas is all about” and it was fantastic.

These all pretty good suggestions, but all of them are objectively wrong, because none of you said “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Don’t get me wrong—I haven’t disliked any of their albums. Right around Challengers, their music just all sorta started to sound the same to me. It’s still outstanding and I still listen to all of it and there are songs on every album I love, but I prefer Mass Romantic and Electric Version over the others. Taste is

“Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen, I’ve got to you tell you ‘bout...”

Mutations is an A+ album.

Bowie — Five Years
Wire — Reuters
The Cure — Plainsong
LCD Soundsystem — Dance Yrself Clean
Julia Holter — Marienbad

Also, skits are the only thing keeping Kanye’s “We Don’t Care” and Ghostface Killah’s “Shakey Dog” from this list.

Oh, AV Club why hast thou forsaken the sweet Laurel Canyon sounds of Dawes?

I still only listen to Golden Feelings.

As literally all of us trans people will tell you - that’s completely unnecessary to the story. Trans people are fantastic at portraying the gender they were assigned at birth; we act the shit out of that our whole lives. We can certainly do it for a movie if we need to.

Also he beat his wife! That was a thing! Or are we not doing #MeToo anymore?

I was going to say Wild Zero but after looking it up, I find that the actor that played Tobio, Shitichai Kwancharu, actually is trans.
