Yeah, Hidden Figures was a weak book and a slightly better movie. The book was clearly an exhaustive labor of love by an enthusiastic amateur, and left the movie with nothing to hang its prettiness on, and was about as facile and by the numbers as Hollywood movies about racism can get.

But Hidden Figures was exactly one of those kinds of movies. Competently-made, good-looking, prestige pretending that was, at its heart, shallow and mediocre. 

I dunno, I’m working in nonprofit theatre and we are relatively untouched by Disney. (OTOH, Samuel French was just bought by Concord Music, which owns premier musical theatre licensor Tams-Witmark, as well as Stax, Kidz Bop, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Varese Sarabande, and is itself owned by Barings Asset…
