My random takeaway was Rick poring over Balthromaw’s hoard and pointing out random momentary pop-culture phenomena from the 80s and 90s, in a manner that I took as goading/taunting the herd of cretins who lost their minds because McDonald’s didn’t have enough Szechuan Dipping Sauce for them.

And no one has mentioned, Mathew Broderick as the cat.

So who’s been dropping squids while Veidt’s been on Europa?

It’s a deep cut reference to Anne McAffery’s Dragonriders Of Pern series, where human/dragon soulbonding is key.

Also, the dragon hotboxing zoo animals is the funniest small thing I have seen in a while.

Usesless fact but that was Liam Cunningham ( Davos from GoT) as the dragon.

The real tragedy of this story: No waffles.

An absolutely stunning hour of television. I had my doubts going into the show in the beginning, but week to week, it has proven to be thematically rich, expertly written, produced and acted, and thrilling in ways that both honor and surpass the source material. (Yes, I said it; Angela is the kind of relatable

People have mentioned before that the ratings for this show have been a bit skewed on this site and I’ve mostly disagreed — but now I honestly can’t say they’re wrong after this one. How you feel about this episode is entirely subjective (imo i thought worst one from this batch so far), but literally half of the

I like the glossed over twist better that its the clones that are imprisoning him there. Not Manhattan or anyone else originally as thought.

We’ve been getting great reviews for this show thanks to Joelle. Meanwhile, over at io9... Charles just made a throwaway comment that Manhattan-as-Cal is blackface and refused to elaborate.

Loved the action sequence at the end with Angela.  And it was a nice touch that when she presses the accelerator the car whines instead of revs, since they drive electric cars in the Watchmen universe.

But I think that’s kind of the point, right? Crudup Manhattan tries, but doesn’t really care. Yahya Manhattan cares, but is so trapped by his abilities.

Joelle mentioned it, but yeah, a very unsatisfying resolution to the “inevitable” tragedy looming 10 years in the future: a racist with a future-gun slowly moving in the background.

Basically everything you could possibly want from a Doctor Manhattan episode and an HBO Watchmen episode. It’s brilliantly written, stunningly shot, beautifully scored, and all sorts of other meaningless adjectives.

I actually knew Jewell a bit, through some high school friends who worked summer jobs in (this will be shocking) a store security department that he ran years before the events here. He was just a nice, mild-mannered guy and anyone who knew him at all could have told you he was not single-handedly outwitting the FBI.

The lungs are not a muscle. The diaphragm is the muscle that inflates or deflates your lungs. The largest muscle in the human body is the Gluteus Maximus. Your ass.

the legendary country singer, now in his 86th year on this planet”

The amount of trauma/loss Angela has experienced . . . my god!
