I believe cats are the hunters in your metaphor, and squirrels, birds, mice, and rabbits are the benign species that are being harmlessly hunted.

If you’re a child-owner and you let your kid roam the neighborhood, you are an asshole. Not everyone wants kids, and you are inflicing them on everyone around you. I never understand why parents think it’s okay to unlease their evil little beasts on a neighborhood.
