You guys should’ve probably waited a day or two so you could add Tunic to this list. It’s getting rave reviews and looks like this year’s Death’s Door.

Obviously the exception lol. But even 11 wasn’t that great. And even with 14, the last decade over all for the franchise has still been disappointing.
If they had balls they’d have given it to Paul Verhoeven.
There was a time long ago when this wasn’t always the case. Those days are long gone.
FF used to be my favorite franchise in gaming. It kills me how far into the ground they’ve driven this franchise since Sakaguchi left (aside from 14). The story-telling has been awful since FF12, which wasn’t great, but had too-notch world building.
I have no regrets about going outside the level and luring the Demon of Hatred off a cliff in Sekiro. Eat shit you flaming bitch!
I’ve often been critical of storytelling in Japanese games, but I can never get enough Fromsoft lore. It’s so rich and piecing together the whole picture it’s a big part of the appeal to me.
It’s kind of strange how people keep mentioning perma-death when only one series is really known for it. FF Tactics/TO style strategy games are numerous. Are we just assuming no one plays Disgaea or anything but FE?
This is the correct answer. CrossCode is the one of the best game in this bundle and it pains me that kotaku keeps overlooking it.
It’s Growslanser. Unfortunately the Kotaku writers are to young to know their PS1 era niche JRPGs.
Ethan, you need a history lesson. Please google Groswlanser.
Man, nothing kills my excitement more than Square Enix announcing the return of a beloved franchise but ripping the heart out if it and replacing it with shallow hack-n-slash combat. For a company that made its name on inventive turn-based and hybrid battle systems, they’ve practically abandoned them in anything more…
as someone with a penchant for low-spec indie gaming, this could be a superb device for playing without needing to sit at my desk.
If you like JRPGs, CrossCode should be right up your alley. I can’t recommend it enough!
CrossCode is the best game in this bundle other than Celeste and is worth the $10 by itself.
That’s Clefairy bro.
And apparently tamagotchi was still a thing?
I’m sure there’s a director who could pull off a live action BB, but a high-budget animated movie with Spiderverse/Arcane level visuals would be a sight to behold. The neo-Gotham setting has so much potential.
God I’d love that. The dynamic between Terry and old Bruce was so interesting. The comparisons between a young hotheaded kid under the mask and Bruce’s more meticulous, reserved detective style.
They’re both legendary top-tier waifus, but Tifa wins out for me. Something about a girl who dotes on you but could also kick your ass is oddly alluring.
