Fucking hell 2017 is taking out great character actors and he was no exception. The kind of one who leveled up any material he was in just by his presence. It's one thing he could play villians with such glee that you loved to hate him, but often he gave them such dimensions that you wouldn't expect. R.I.P.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was an absolute blast, a majestic combination of space opera, adventure sci-fi, action, great characters, humor, drama and music. The selected songs fit so well, that I have a feeling that James Gunn wrote many scenes around them, but what makes it really shine is the bigger focus on the team

The way William Peter Blatty describes the crucifix masturbation in The Exorcist…probably the only time I actually passed out from reading a book (to be fair I was about 13 years old).

I went to a special screening of the Romanian movie 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days. It was in a closed, hot, humid room, with no air, closed windows. That already wasn't very pleasant, but when the doctor started to graphically describe the abortion process that he's going to pefrom the heroine's friend, I felt every drop

After "The Leather Special" I don't particularly have the urge to watch Amy Schumer for any extended time period. Also I can't believe Goldie Hawn and Jonathan Levine is involved in this. They are leagues above crass garbage like this this.

Even if the album would be as bad as described here (which it isn't by the way), this would be still an embarrassing review with cringe-worthy ammounts of rose-tinted nostalgia and self-importance.

That fight scene between Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi is pure, distilled poetry in motion. I've seen many martial arts movies but it's ranks leagues above everything else. It makes my heart warm that audiences fully embraced it back in the day and gave it the reception it deserves. An absolute masterpiece.

An eclectic and wide-ranging successful career with a genre-defining masterpiece sitting on the top. Is there anything else a director could ask for? Demme certianly deserved it, he was a very talented and open-minded artist who never stepped into the same river twice. R.I.P.

I had this film on VHS when I was a kid, and I swear I watched it again and again, until the tape became useless. I've never seen anything like it, although what mainly drew me back were the mindfucking and often nightmarish imagery and the kung-fu action. Still and unmatched crazy combination of eastern and western

I usually tend ot avoid bad-looking movies at the big screen, but I did managed ran into a few especially hideous encounters. The absolute worst I've seen is by far none other than Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, which is not only insultingly vapid, brainless and pretentious, but so aggressively bombastic in its visuals

Caught a couple of really good films at a local film festival this weekend:
Julia Ducournau's "Raw" has been making headlines since it's first screening as one of the most disturbing, riveting and boundary-pushing horror films of the past years. After seeing it…holy fuck it does deserve the hype. The trials of

While I certainly enjoy Blade (and Blade 2 even more), I think Ronin should have gotten the top billing here. It's an amazingly well crafted, tense, thrilling and timeless actioner, and not only a great last hurrah for John Frankenheimer (let's just forget about Reindeer Games) but also one of the last old-school

Quiet weekend for me. Got the new Mastodon album which is pretty great. It's an eclectic fusion of their early heavy, sludgy sound and the more accessible, melodic tendencies of the last two records. Big focus on catchy choruses. "Show Yourself" feels really corny and abruptly put together, but the rest of the album

In the 1980's my father spent two months in Chicago as an international student, and to this day he can recall his experience right down the icy, chilling fear that ran through his veins whenever he went off the map and got into a rough-looking backalley or neighborhood. He described it as a perfect insight into

Possibly the craziest, most over-the-top, action cheese-fest that ever came out of Hollywood, and it works so much because Woo fully embraces the ridiculousness of the script and cranks it even higher with his direction. Or you know what? I'm just gonna quote somebody else:
"Than the final battle at the end of the

Saturday I've helped my sister moving into a new flat, which sucked out every ounce energy from me.You guys can't even imagine how much stuff one can pile up even in the smallest of places. But I did caught up on some movies: On Body and Soul is the latest art-house sensation that swooped film festivals (including the

Watching this movie one the big screen in a packed theater was one of the most hypnotising moviegoing experiences I've ever had. In a rational-logical sense I didn't understood half of it, yet the combination of imagery, movement, sound, music and the way Malick captured the fragmented yet powerful moments of

Maybe it's due to the conjunction of the planets, the many rewrites (including from Aaron Sorkin and Tarantino) or simply Bay catching his best days during the shooting, but The Rock is truly an action classic, and pretty much the zenith of the hyper-kintetic, style-over-substance MTV-like filmmaking that definied the

Had a pretty good weekend in terms of pop culture.
First I finally saw Moonlight. I know I'm super late to the party but it only came here about two weeks ago and I wanted to see it on the big screen. I won't go into whether or not it deserves the Best Picture Oscar (movie awards usually don't mean a thing for me), but

A comic book/superhero film that gets an A- form Dowd? Shit just got real son. Seriously can't wait to get my hands on this on the weekend, not to mention Mangold already proved his knack for the western aesthetics with the superb 3:10 to Yuma remake.
