It’s not the new one I’ve wanted. But I will absolutely not say no to this. As good as the newer RPGs are, none of them has even come close in my eyes to reaching the greats of this one. I’ve always wanted a true sequel to Mario RPG. 

Turn based implies characters going in a set order (taking turns) and nothing breaking that (aside from games with interrupt mechanics such as Trails). In ATB, if a character’s meter fills and you just sit there, enemies will wail on you until you do something. And if all your character’s bars fill at the same time…

But XIII is ATB too. 

I always find comments like this funny. While the series has had turn based entries, they’re hardly the series staple. FF X was the first main line turn based entry since III. Everything in-between used ATB

There are games that do it well. It looks fantastic in Ratchet and Clank.
