While the reasons The Marvels underperformed are worth digging into, the constant dragging the conversation out, even when discussing the success of unrelated projects, feels like a part of the phenomenon, not some impartial outsider’s observation. Like, you’re not examining the hole; you’re digging it deeper.

Are those even considered successes? Neither has made its budget back.

They seem to be super unpopular; there are a LOT of musicals (Mean Girls, Color Purple, Wonka) where the trailer almost completely elides the inclusion of musical numbers. Pretty grim if you can’t sell a musical on…being a musical.

Talk about smelling it and dealing it!

Nah, it was the smug “well you’re talking about him now” stuff I dismissed. Troll arguments.

The AVCclub split a single interview with Da’Vine Joy Randolph into two parts (so far) to “generate content”

I guess! Don’t think I’m being optimistic in saying the above, though.

lol i don’t think “fun” is the operative word they’re going for with this

The thing for me is 1) it’s already happened/happening and 2) it didn’t/doesn’t look like this trailer. The reality is simultaneously more subtle and outrageous, darker and more mundane. ~6 years ago this would be eerily prescient and possible; these days it feels off the mark.

Alex Garland is the dumb guy’s smart guy

Grok really illustrated to me the way a falsely conversational tone and an emphasis on “you could say” hedging of opinions belies the shortcomings of generative content like this.

ah, 300, a movie that is almost but definitely not pro-fascism

It’s hard to answer to a lot of what you’re projecting, but speaking for myself, I don’t find his movies fun or cool but rather self-important and cringe. I’m not very vehement in my dislike, but it can be jarring to see how charged up his fanbase can get for something that, to me, is not just an empty shell but an

“And Army of the Dead is an original concept but it doesn’t count since he did a zombie movie before.”

That’s how all generative-ai content reads to me: like someone trying to meet the word count for a report on a book they never read.

Man, remember when this was a site where they’d try to even attempt to investigate why they haven’t received the money yet rather than spin an article out of a single quote.

It’s funny cause the popularity and acclaim of Miyazaki’s movies helped changed dubs for the better; the translations got more accurate rather than simply fitting mouth movements, and the performances got better. The only one of his movies where the famous voice stands out for me is Billy Crystal in Howl’s Moving

The grade’s A-minus, but the review is giving B-minus. Plus, critiquing the dub without having seen it is…a choice.

What’s funny is decades of visits is a pretty solid amount of experience/expertise of Florida, yet a better writer would just let that come out in the writing about Florida.

Your NIGHTMARE is bound to be short-lived as HISTORICALLY they’ve released games to PC at a LATER DATE
