Those contracts and schedules can be restrictive af though. 

It was a meeting, not an audition; a meeting is usually a lot earlier in the production process (often prior to writing, even), and the main thrust is for the parties involved to discuss what they want creatively out of the project. Maybe he was cavalier, but that sort of question is part of the discussion.

Also, it wasn’t even an audition, it was a meeting; the entire thrust of these meetings is “tell me why this is worth my/your/our time.”
