Actually, this situation happens frequently in corporate america. There are times when a less qualified candidate is hired because they are a minority. While this is not always bad, I have heard stories and actually lived through work situations where a person in this situation had no business in that role, and yet

If that’s gibberish, then you might need some reading comprehension courses. In the meantime, enjoy your vast misogyny conspiracy. You know how it goes, everyday they're asking how to attract more women-hating sexists. That's exactly the Zelda audience.

Why does he even need to explain this...

For the story that they want to tell? Maybe. Is it better to shoehorn a woman into the lead without regard?

Well we both can stop being armchair hiring managers.

Based on most of the responses here, there is no way to tell your post from a serious post. Sorry bud.

Define accessible then.

Only thing really offensive here is that you don’t think a girl or a black child can identify as the protagonist of a piece of art, unless said protagonist is of the same race or gender. A person is not defined by its colour or sex, but the qualities of its character, and they are (relatively) universal.

I’m just replying for the sake of humoring myself.

It would be beyond awesome if they made Zelda a literal, playable grill

To all the people complaining about the reasoning, it really doesn’t have to be complicated. Their creative vision is Link is a male. It’s literally that simple.

I fail to see why this matters. Link traditionally has always been a male character and I’m okay with them sticking to the tradition, just like Samus has traditionally been a woman and I’m okay with them sticking to that tradition. It wouldn't add anything to the series to make Link a girl, I'd rather play as Shiek

Spirit Tracks then?

This is the correct take. Gender-Swapping is just creative laziness. We want strong, ORIGINAL, lead females. Lead females with ORIGINAL stories.

Diversity for the sake of diversity is going to be the death of all industries.

We’ve all played video games as squirrels, raccoons, tanookie, dolphin, dragons, fat italian plumbers, robots, bicycles, women with big tits, women with small tits and everything else imaginable. What really is the issue with a a bunch of bloody pixels?

How has she not been an integral part of the game in most of the recent titles? Her getting captured doesn’t negate that. She’s a necessity because of her connection to wisdom. She gets captured for that very reason. That isn’t to say however that she hasn’t taken care of shit herself in Ocarina, Wind Waker, Twilight

How is that what is being said at all?

(source needed)

Exactly. I think it’s because people feel too much like it’s their story. But it’s not. It’s Link and Zelda’s story. You are just participating in it.
