I mean, all that's true, but it just goes to show how debased the entire institution of capital punishment is in the first place; adhering to what is essentially a silly little rule that hinges on an administrative technicality is worth causing someone to die in agony.
But those things don't permit people to imagine that someone gets a shot and peacefully goes to sleep. You have to think about severed heads and necks bent at unnatural angles when you think of the guillotine and hanging. There would be less sympathy for the death penalty if the reality of it were better known.
The cocktail is pointless except in its cruelty. If you want someone to die and don't want them to suffer, a massive overdose of barbiturates will do the trick each and every time. The fact that you can easily fuck up the cocktail and cause immense suffering is a feature to death penalty enthusiasts, not a bug.
