There would be less sympathy for the death penalty if the reality of it were better known.

The cocktail is pointless except in its cruelty. If you want someone to die and don't want them to suffer, a massive overdose of barbiturates will do the trick each and every time. The fact that you can easily fuck up the cocktail and cause immense suffering is a feature to death penalty enthusiasts, not a bug.
