I feel that acknowledging your bias and measuring your thoughts against that goes a long way to avoiding the brand of “racist”. Granted, the definition of what constitutes racism and what doesn’t can be different for different people, but if you approach any decision/feeling from a position of acknowledged bias, it

Okay, this has to stop. It’s not up to pop culture websites, social media, or people you encounter in the real world to not spoil plot elements to things you are interested in. If it matters that much to you, stay current with the show, or, I don’t know, avoid pop culture websites and social media until you catch up.

This is why I frequent The Root. I’ve had my ass handed to me a few times for something I didn’t mean in an offensive way, and while sometimes I think people are misinterpreting me, I always appreciate the chance to reconsider what I said and whether it came from a place of bias or sounded offensive.

There’s also the fact that I’ve found that white people tend to be repeatedly taught throughout childhood and beyond that racism is bad without being explained what racism even is. So when they see people explaining that someone is racist, they assume it’s meant only as an “insult” to that person and not something

To put in other terms; between pattern recognition tendencies, in-grouping/out-grouping, and lots of bad learned behavior, humans are very predisposed to be biased towards the groups they are raised with, but that can be overcome with lots of conscious effort.

Everyone’s racist.

This is perfect. The reason we can never have a conversation about someone being racist is that literally no one thinks they’re racist. The idiotic definition we’ve all agreed on is something like “hating others for the color of their skin.” But these people hate minorities for *reasons*.

Yeah, 5-8k cars are rough, I don’t work in that price range. For cheap stuff I say have some friends that know their stuff and research everything you can.

I have a 10 year plan for a used 991.1 lol

“Oh my. This hurts. There was a ‘protective barrier’ there for a reason! Who does these things?!”

It depends on the car, the miles, and how far away it is. A CPO Accord that is sold at a local store, maybe not a necessity. A CPO M3 across the country? I would spend a few bucks for the extra piece of mind.

That is exactly correct, and what a dealer told me about the CLS550 that I recently bought. It needed about $3K worth of work and was priced about $2K under fair value. The original counter to my $3K reduction was “It’s been on the lot for 21 days. We’ll sit on it for another 3 until someone comes along that doesn’t

Not necessarily.

This is a good point, but all of those things were an indicator of a previous owner who really didn’t take care of the car. Why buy that one when you can have a similar car for similar money with a fully detailed history?

I operate remotely so I don’t have the liberty of driving and seeing the cars myself. Nor do I have the mechanical background to confidently make a call about whether or not a car is really good. So I depend on the pros.

I get what you’re saying here, but it’s a slippery slope. This primes a mindset that leads to everyone dressing like a slob and being inconsiderate to everyone else because “Well they don’t know who I am and I’ll never see them again, so why even try?” I know you’re not saying that it’s okay to be rude, but sometimes

There’s a crossover where nice and comfortable meet, I aim for that. Then again, I’d rather be naked than seen in public wearing sweatpants.

yeah but you are in public - shouldn’t there be a minimum decorum level? if I dressed in gym clothes I would be embarrassed in this setting...and in turn I find all the slobs dressed like this to be embarrassing and gross. just my opinion but I can’t help it.
