Yessssss! I am here for anything Octavia Butler.
I am so excited, especially the choice of DuVernay to spearhead this. I was getting weary of black women/WOC being left out of leading roles in all this comic/sci-fi goodness that’s happening (yes I want more than Black Panther, yes I already know about Star Trek Discovery, no Guardians of Galaxy does not count). I…
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. I cannot wait for this.
OH MY FREAKING GOD. I am in the middle of the second book right now, reading it for the first time. I don’t know how I went this long without it in my life, it’s absolutely perfect.
Hopefully without a lot of on the nose music cues a la Handmaid’s Tale.
Please do Kindred, Ava! Before anyone else can fuck it up!
This book was the first Octavia Butler book I read, and it was great!
There is good news in the world. I loved that book, and I will be very disappointed if it gets white washed.
This is really eerie (though mostly exciting!) after the news from the last few days. Can’t wait to see what it looks like!
This is great news. I’m hoping that Dawn and the HBO adaptation of Nnedi Okorafor’s Who Fears Death will outshine that ill-advised Confederacy show. We need feminist AfroFuturism on television, and lots of it.
Real tears. I am crying real tears. I devoured the Lilith’s Brood series as a teen. It was amazing to see someone who could have been me in science fiction.
That “at-risk” argument isn’t unlimited. You can’t claim “my kid is ‘at-risk’ as a poor and/or minority person and should never be prosecuted no matter what he does.” This wasn’t a minor scuffle or rude remarks to a teacher. If these kids beat another kid unconscious, you can save the school-to-prison-pipeline talk.…
I contemplated suicide at around this poor kid’s age due to school bullying, so I can’t say I’m all that shocked that he was driven to it. For my part, I simply got “sick” a lot and stayed home from school whenever I felt I could get away with it.
I know... I cannot imagine the extreme emotional pain and agony his parents must be feeling...
Right? Who calls the mom to take the kid to the hospital? Bullshit ex post facto explanation. This should have been an immediate 911 EMS call.
I hope its not just a lawsuit against the school. I want those bullies to be punished, severely for the rest of their lives.
how does the school find an unconscious 8 year old in the bathroom and just check his vitals and send him home. finding a student unconscious on campus should’ve immediately yielded an ambulance and a mandatory trip to the hospital. that’s absolutely unconscionable. these are the people responsible for the health and…
This is horrible. Were any of the school’s administrators punished? Seems the principal and the nurse should be out of a job if they withheld information from the mom.
