OMG the day I saw MIL’s employees using my thrown out drawers for rags at the family business. She liberated them from my garbage without my knowledge. Waste not, want not but JFC.

This phenomena of smugly looking south to feel better about its own racism happens in the northeastern US as well. I find it fascinating. IDK if it’s a way to avoid accountablility or self esteem preservation or what but it’s the places you find it once you look is telling.

Prison work camp in my region. I’m a recent immigrant. A few years back I wandered into a public community center while I was out exploring. They told their story along the walls with photos and descriptions. It was the first I’d heard of it in my 25 years visiting the area. Nobody fucking talks about it.
