Well, for starters, I’d recommend The Ghost of Kasane Swamp, which is a short and sweet classic kaidan. It’s just 66 minutes, delightful B&W photography and ends badly, just like a good Japanese ghost film should. Another one, my favourite other than Jigoku, is Black Cat Mansion. The film shows two timelines, one

Nobuo Nakagawa is an AMAZING director! He’s basically the Japanese Terence Fisher; his gothic films are there with Mario Bava or Tod Browning in quality. I’m a fan.

I saw Encarnaçao do Demonio, the last of the Zé do Caixao films, in its world premiere at the Sitges Film Festival with a special appearance by José Mojica Marins. Still one of my best experiences in a theater to this day.

Love the illustrations’ baroque/byzantine style. I’m a fan of Denis Vileneuve and his penchant for brutalist design, but for me Dune is supposed to look FUCKING WEIRD.

Never managed to finish it, always got stuck in the log section of the Hakuna Matata level.

This reminds me of the controversy over the Sokal Squared hoax of some months ago. I’m completely for exposing most social sciences academic claims as the snake oil they are, so keep it up.

No, she couldn’t- the point of the prequels was that the Republic and the Jedi Order were so full of systemic flaws that it only took a single bad actor with long term vision to make an apparatus that had lasted for 25,000 years fall apart in a single decade. Even the largest trees are susceptible to rot.

My comment or the clip? I am THAT confused.

wait, what’s edgelord about my name?

I don’t get this clip. Where’s the joke? What am I supposed to laugh at? Where’s the punchline? Is this how humor works now? I’m confused. The more I see, the more I’m glad to skip this series that apparently a sizable chunk of this site’s readership thinks it’s the best thing since sliced bread.

I’d say it’s their main selling point. Gameplay mechanics aren’t exactly Naughty Dog’s forte.

Well, to be honest, except for Avatar (which is a very user friendly and not that long show) I can perfectly understand why you’re hesitant any other of the rest, they are either too long or pretty cryptic/ niche.

But yes, the Expanse is a terrific show.

I like the novel, but as for its prescient powers, I’m very much in the line of Thomas Disch’s views: the novel has quite the tone of a member of the Edwardian upper-middle class that likes to chastise even the thought that the underclasses may actually have a good time.

full confession: I loved this movie, it was a temerndously enjoyable B-movie without pretensions and a mid-level budget, which is rare to see these days. Also, Kristen Stewart, which is always a plus.

... congratulations?

Oh man, I’m so hyped for this movie. I love the Lynch version -yes, I’m one of THOSE- and I really really hope this one keeps the strangeness of the setting filtered through the Villeneuve lens. And the casting is plain perfect!

...lemme guess, you didn't read the books, right?

Wait, so now that io9 didn’t like the movie it’s “There is a lot of very vocal people who didn’t enjoy the movie”? It’s not “If you didn’t like this movie you’re an entitled disgusting whiny rightwing manchild and you should feel bad”?

But... she isn’t. I mean, it’s not only Poe, her whole crew mutinies the first chance they get. Her response to a very obviously terrified crew member for reassurances is FOLLOW MY ORDERS OR ELSE (I remember very vividly the “Oh, God, we’re going to die” expression of the crew member after that). Her whole arc,

It’s a wonderful book, and way more complex that description suggests. More of an exploration on identity, lies, stories, the role they play in our lives and the thin, blurry line that separates all of them, than a mere “The Merry Gaycapades of Mr. L.”
