I’m okay losing the mosquitoes, black flies, bedbugs and tics; somehow I expect they will not be impacted.  

Natural bug control that poops you breakfast? Yes please. Our flock also produces the best fertilizer for our gardens and fruit trees and bushes. We have cultivated every square inch of our suburban yard to grow food, flowers, trees and attract bees and butterflies. Our government used to promote this. What changed?

There’s a pretty significant movement toward more “natural” residential areas, these days. I know in my town the city has allowed people to plant native grasses, flowers and plants and their front yard.  And, of course, it’s not just good for nature, but cuts way down on maintenance.

My first thought....

I hate lawns. They’re biologically dead areas, the grass doesn’t have flowers and is designed to suffocate all other plants that try to grow in the over-fertilized soil. No flowering plants means no bugs, no bugs means no birds. You might as well pave the whole area. I get that lawns are great in parks and such, but…

Karma has already blessed me with an abundance of misfit animals that have found us over the years...our cup/backyard runneth over.

I’ve got a bunch of grape hyacinths, and I went for some different and fun for each side of the front of steps. Hopefully they grow. Red Crown Imperial, they look almost tropical.
