I’m far from a “casual player” and I don’t find levels that are difficult just for the sake of being difficult to be fun.

Once Mario Maker became all about just trying to make the most difficult levels possible, I lost interest in the custom level scene. That just isn’t interesting to me, and also not what I feel Mario games are about.

This was my problem with Crash Bandicoot 3. It just tried to do too much. I’m all for some gameplay variety, but when I want to play a platformer, I want to play a platformer. The Mario games have managed to stay fresh generation after generation without having games full of random minigames and diversions.

I don’t think Sony actually wanted that. They don’t rake in the cash from indie games. It’s more like big developers gave up on it and indies were all that was left.
