Yes, I fear that some degree of other-ism is part of the human condition. I’d like to believe that we are gradually making it less common. We’ll be dead centuries before it’s uncommon, but you know, baby steps.

To say that it hasn’t conquered those barriers is correct. To say that it hasn’t diminished those barriers is, I would argue, a cynical overstatement.

I’ve got nothing to say on this topic except that I like the idea of cross-racial couples as an embodiment of the idea that we can overcome the cultural barriers that separate us.
