“It was something indescribable,” Castillo said through an interpreter.

Foul, no, two fouls.

Ujiri showed his identification “in a very threatening kind of way,”

Just glancing at the Rangers’ stats from 18-19 and wow, outside of Zibanejad, they do not have any top line forwards and all of their top D took a large step back. Trouba just became their best defenseman, which doesn’t seem optimal!

I mean, the Karlsson saga last summer was pretty damn good.

For sure. I think it’s almost Couture’s team now, anyway. He’s maybe their best all-around forward and still has a good 6-7 years ahead of him. Burns is getting up there in age and the phrase “leader of men” doesn’t jump out at me when I think of Hertl.

100%. FWIW, I’m extremely low-balling Meier. $8M is probably a fair number. I can see Rantanen getting $9.5M, easy. Laine is a tricky one as his goal-scoring is there, but he doesn’t do much else particularly well. But still, no less than $7M.

I don’t get the feeling they’re working too hard on bringing back Pavelski unless he’s willing to give them a real nice hometown deal (4$M?). I think Thornton would take a $1.5M-2M deal, easy. But Meier will command, what, at least $6M? At least?! The math isn’t there unless they unload money elsewhere, maybe Dillon.

San Jose must think their window is the next 3-4 seasons because the back half of Karlsson, Burns and Vlasic is going to be hell. BUT if you think you’re that close to the Cup, you fuckin’ go for it!

Agreed. But, the NFL clock keeps moving (most of the time), there are penalties for delaying the game and most importantly, their refs don’t make calls every play. Every pitch is a call.

I would say, yeah, if you go up 7-plus in the opening group game against a team your were unanimously favored to beat, maybe take down a notch. And you know what, I’ll give those rookies room but the Rapinoes and Morgans of this team don’t need to be doing cartwheels as they put up a baker’s dozen.

You are very correct! US was sorta dickish about it but they didn’t give the Thai goalkeeper the finger or anything.

But that’s literally their point. Score the goals, especially as differential matters, but once they go up 6 or 7, go high five your teammates and get back to center.

Hell, if a team goes up 4-0 in a NHL regular season game, they don’t even raise their sticks.

God bless the USA!

Again, I think you are really discounting the threat of ejection that exists in today’s game. And I already said that there’s no doubt there is an issue of umpires making ejections personal.

Megan Rapinoe, who is in her third WC, does not need to piss her pants celebrating her 45th USNWT goal to make it 9-0 against the 37th ranked team in the world.

Because umpires have the ability to toss players for arguing/bitching, players don’t do it NEARLY as much as they would if umps were powerless. I guarantee if you stripped umps of that power, you’d see stop-downs every inning. There are roughly 300 pitches thrown per game. What percentage of pitches do you think

Preface: This is no defense of Angel Hernandez and other trigger-happy umps. Hernandez flat out sucks and shouldn’t be umpiring tee ball.

I assume Holt thought Betts was going to...cover him?
