A throwback can still be infantilizing and sexist, especially if there’s no transformation of the throwback into something more transgressive.

My personal opinion is that attempting to difficulty shame is from a bygone era- the 90s in the US, the 00's in Japan. Which is why I find a call-back to the “EXTREME” Wolfenstein 3D hilarious. Man the 90's were edgy.

It’s more than a little bit of a stretch to refer to a critic doing his job as bullying. I feel the same way as him about the difficulty gatekeeping and appreciate it being mentioned in the review. Obviously it’s the developers’ prerogative, but that doesn’t mean that players have to like it.

Or “the developers of this game felt the need to make fun of me because of how I choose to play it.” It’s not a war crime or anything, but it’s a subtle push against new players, and it’s a frequent pet peeve of mine.

There are a billion ways to pay homage to the series’ history without calling players who prefer lower difficulties babies. Throw in a Dopefish or something, instead.

I’m not sure what you mean by uber-masculine; Blazkowicz isn’t, say, Duke Nukem, and if the game codes toward traditional “male” values, it’s more in a “a man does right by his family and his country” manner than sheer “Come get some, you fucking Nazi pussies” machismo. I’m just disinterested in games offering up

They made this shit before Black Dynamite was even in the room!

That is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Thank you, Sir Scream.

Well say what you want, but she is *really* good at it. Jesus.

the long-delayed 18th (!) film

If you like video game horror movies watch It Follows. Video game horror is always more about tension than movies. But It Follows perfectly captures the tension.

RIP Elizabeth Pena. I used to have a huge crush on her.

Jacobs Ladder is absolutely a horror movie and an influential one at that. This imagery has been ripped off in countless horror movies.

Granted, it wasn’t a movie, but it worked exceedingly well in Legion. I’m cautiously optimistic for this movie, despite sharing your issues with the quality of the trailer.

I care about this movie about 10000X more than I care about the “core” X-Men movies. And as another commenter pointed out, Legion is better than any of the movies.

Legion might be up there as my favorite X-related production, movie or otherwise.

Ok, I’m in.

Yes, a typo completely invalidates my point. How foolish of me.

See they’ve gonre for tropical feel. When I read the book I had more of a rural, abandoned beach scene - more Norfolk (UK) or I guess New England (US).

Shouldn’t there be zero violence by anyone?
