Ugh. I promise that on some reddit sub where I dare not tread dozens of people are probably making this exact post.
There’s also a strong stripe of libertarian “free speech means I can be a dickbag without consequences” (source: I live in Mountain View).
This wins the thread. Christ.
I know what you mean. As a 43 year old who grew up in California, my early associations with the Confederate flag (and for that matter ‘Dixie’) were entirely from Dukes of Hazzard and ergo pretty much positive (“yeah, jump that car! you guys are cool!”). It took me a while to really internalize what an offensive slap…
Huh, I haven’t played baseball since little league, but I remember we were always taught to yell “ball!” if we had it or “help!” if we didn’t because “I got it!” and “you get it!” can sound a bit similar when running/yelling (especially because it’s easy to drop the I/you). I just assumed this was general practice.
But but but...why can’t they just, you know, buy cartons of juice and put them in the fridge? Also, it’s not like juice is some kind of staple - it’s soda with better PR.
I think you’ve really gotten to the root of the matter.
What needs defending? He’s a guy who realized that there was some basic shit about how money moves around in this country that he had never understood (because he never had need to). He *correctly* surmised that *most* Americans, regardless of income level, don’t know this stuff easier and started a project to try to…
I assume you meant “aren’t” secrets. The news contains more information than anyone can possibly digest. What percentage of Americans do you think are aware of these things? If it’s more than 2% I’d be astounded.
Jesus, now who is in a bubble? I’m glad that you can understand how mortgage tax credits and health care deductions affect you specifically as easy as a google search. You are in a very small minority of Americans for being able to do that.
There is a definite tone (perhaps not from you, but from these comments in general) that we should mock this effort into oblivion. That’s basically calling for rejection.
Stop using that metaphor. It’s fucking terrible. There are lots of things mentioned in this article that people might not know about. The shoe tying metaphor only makes sense if he then decides to, umm, make a website devoted to helping people learn to tie their shoes I guess? Point being: there are a *lot* of people…
Really. You figured out health care deductions for businesses when you were a teenager?
Eh, I don’t know. I mean, I’m pretty surprised how little the mortgage deduction makes a difference (just to name one thing he was surprised by), and the fact that there is no national reporting of gun, well, *anything* isn’t something you’d be aware of until you were shocked by how it doesn’t exist.
Do teams like Manchester United and Real Madrid not get big TV and sponsorship deals?
And the very rare “Komchatka not in the context of Risk” reference.
David Harbor seems like an awesome guy from every interview I’ve ever heard with him.
No they aren’t. They are different.
Huh, I’m only one episode in, but my initial reaction was exactly the opposite: I felt like they left too many joke opportunities go by without saying anything.
