Nah.  I read the books, and I’m with you.  It’s bewildering why she found him attractive.

Sidenote: he didn’t “refute” Linick’s testimony, he just denied the allegations. “Refute” means to prove wrong. He offered no proof, just denial.

Spaghettification happens because there’s a lot more gravity at your feet than at your head, so your feet are pulled harder than your head, stretching you out. Pancaking is because there’s a lot of gravity (or acceleration) (not a gravitational gradient) and you’re on a hard floor. :-)

Glad I checked before making the same food-based suggestion!

Movies are expensive to make.  A large part of that expense is the salaries of the hundreds of people who built it.  We shouldn’t expect Disney to give away a movie for free - ultimately that comes out of those people’s salaries, and Disney’s ability to invest in future movies.

I love the idea of an electrical heater saving money by being “efficient”. In an inefficient electrical device, any inefficiency from electricity not serving the main function is wasted...as heat. So I’m guessing all electrical heaters are ~100% efficient.

BTW, I imagine the impact of the glow is minimal. Even a

Yes! They’ve done really well in keeping the characters interesting, and not getting weighed down by world-building

An addition to your point about the worms...IIRC, this is the moment in the book that Paul makes the connection between the worms and spice. He smells spice on the worms. In the trailer, I could persuade myself that you hear the worm actually exhale as it rears up in front of him. I bet that’s why.

Sardaukar... “did you see how well they fought?” is one of my favorite lines in the whole book. When a team of Fremen essentially wipe out a whole squad of Sardaukar with apparently little trouble, to, I think, Duncan’s amazement. “Wait, but those were Sardaukar!” “Yes, did you see how well they fought?” Love it.

Totally agree. But Cohen seems to be the only one of all of them - and there are many, plenty of whom you would think were upstanding moral members of society - who actually has had a conversion.

My CFO gets emails purporting to be from our CEO, asking for money to be wired quickly to him for an emergency. The trouble is that the incremental cost of sending an email is so low that you only need a minuscule hit rate for these scams to be profitable.

Assuming they could find a way to short a stock anonymously, you’d think that might be a more profitable tack to take.

The only datapoint you need:

The military has only ever been a photo opp to Trump.  Whether it’s generals in his team, sending troops to the border, the cancelled July 4 parade, and now this...they are a prop, used as needed to further his goals, and no-one else’s.

yeah, Irulan was just a voiceover (reflecting her role in the books, where iirc, each chapter starts off with a quote from the history book she wrote).

Yes.  There’s a whole sub-plot about awakening gholas.  It’s worth reading #3.

I always felt that the odd-numbered ones (excluding the Brian Herbert ones, which I’ve only tried to read). I don’t know why it turned out that way. Agree with randompants that God Emperor was great.
