Yeah, there’s not. After eavesdropping on my conversation with someone else, he interrupted to tell me that it was dangerous to have midwives attending births because we can’t to C-sections. I gently informed him that I indeed work in a hospital alongside physicians, so should that need arise, we can in fact make it

Yeah, I’m a nurse midwife, so I see this on the reg - it’s so incredibly irritating. Just last week I had some douchebro pick an argument about C-sections AT A FUNERAL when he found out what I do for a living. Maybe I’ll just randomly show up with a college freshman one day and not even tell anyone I ever had kids,

Um, replace lingerie with a cammo bikini, and I have the same friend.

I’m totally doing this next time I get a puppy. Best. Shower. Ever.

Eh, that one doesn’t bother me at all, actually - totally practical, and I would way rather buy someone diapers that will actually get used than a whole bunch of random crap that isn’t really needed and per most of my mommy friends don’t even get used more than a few times (I’m looking at you, wipe warmers!)

Now THAT is a party!

It’s so obnoxious! If the Mr and I ever do decide to procreate, I’m just not telling anyone anything. Like, I’ll just let people awkwardly tiptoe around my growing belly, and randomly show up with a baby one day. Between people telling you what to do when you’re pregnant, to people having opinions about gender, names,

Yeah, I have a family member that works with her and a bunch of the Food Network chefs pretty regularly, and she's apparently a real piece of work. Alex Guarnaschelli (sp?) apparently is fantastic to work with, though.

I’m a 12-14, and I love the undershorts by Jockey - they’re like Spanx shorts but not tight. They’re not expensive, either, I just get them at Target.

Ugh, I hate that so much! My husband and I have been married for over a decade, and we decided from the start that we didn’t want kids. I want to just slap the knowing smirk off peoples faces when they say I’ll change my mind. It sucks, too, because IF you do change your mind - which is totally fine, btw - it totally

Sadly, yes, if she wanted a full funeral service she would have needed the money to do so, and that can be very expensive. Sort of related, though, in most places if you have a later term loss there are funeral homes that will handle cremation services for free, but I don’t know of any that will do a full service

Very much so, yes.

She clearly didn’t want the embryo treated as medical waste, which I understand. I’m not religious, so I can’t speak to what a church might have done for her, but I am an obstetric provider, so I can only speak to what the hospital could possibly have done for her.

While I totally agree with you in theory - clearly this woman should have been handled more compassionately all the way around - in practice, the regulations around crematoriums are so strict - they wouldn’t be able to legally give her a thimbleful of ashes, whether they be from her embryonic remains or from other

I am so, so sorry you went through any of that, compounded by your doctor’s terrible attitude and even worse medical advice. Many internet hugs to you!

While my heart goes out to this woman - she’s clearly dealing with a lot, there’s really not much a hospital could do for her if she arrived having already miscarried, regardless of finances. Any remains would likely be treated as medical waste at that point; even if they referred her to a funeral home, as is usually

I don’t think she’s evolved so much as she toned it WAY down for the Times, but I agree this was definitely less unhinged than her normal rants. My objection is mostly to this being reported as a news article rather than an Op-Ed, and by someone with a clear agenda that limits women’s access to their choice of safe

I’ve been to Oleana, it was fantastic! I'm so putting the rest of these on my list - thanks for the suggestions!

I'm a recent New England transplant, and just discovered Flour a couple of weeks ago - so excited to see her on this list!

This was not a news report by the Times, this was an Op-Ed by Amy Teuteur. She's frankly just as bad as the woo midwives, just in the opposite direction.
