I’m sorry, that sucks so hard. We were broke as hell when I was a kid, so neither of us were lavished with anything. I think creating the narrative that “you’re not into fashion” or “you don’t care so much about your looks” is such a common thing for parents to do - basically make it a self fulfilling prophecy. I

Then asshole it is!

I’m so, so sorry.

Do we have the same mom?? Mine used to do the same, and never understood why my hair just went out instead of down.

OMG, I thought it was just my mom that did this!

I mean, I don’t want to call anyone’s mom an asshole, but dang, if the shoe fits...

I feel this so hard. My mom worshipped my sister, and I was constantly reminded that nothing was flattering on me, but she was the gorgeous one. Which I was never allowed to forget. And so much dowdy clothing, omg.

So much of it is just projection - if they only realized it *before* they took it out on the kids.

That’s cold!

Ugh, I’m so sorry. Love moms that instill good body image, right?

Starting at age eight, my mother’s nickname for me was thunder thighs. Why yes, I did develop an eating disorder, how did you guess?

Otters are such assholes, but I love them so much. My husband exploits this by texting me pictures of them when I’m mad at him. Jerk.

It’s heartbreaking, but I think not for the reasons she thinks it is. They seem to honestly believe the media exposure is the destructive force, and not the actions of Josh Duggar himself, much less the culture that fostered and covered for that behavior. My heart goes out to her, honestly.

I have a family member that was a nun during the same time period, and while a lot of things were alluded to along these same lines, she never spoke about specifics. She entered the convent straight out of high school (Catholic of course), and left in her early 40s. I knew her when she was in her 70s, and even then

Exactly. I mean, most women who have abortions already have children, and many don’t even get D&Cs, it’s just medication. But none of that probably makes for a good soap opera!

Oh, I could write a book about how much I dislike Fitz and how awful their relationship is - so maybe that could be spun as actually having a positive effect on her life, lol.

Hospital based CNM here, glad you had such a great experience! Midwives are a great choice for low risk women, and even some higher risk situations when in a collaborative practice with physicians. You can also see CNMs when you’re not pregnant - we provide primary care for all women from adolescence to post

Teaching hospitals are great for this, and do practice a LOT more evidence based care. Private hospitals are more of a mixed bag, and you see a lot more of these attitudes there. As an OB nurse, I trained in a teaching hospital, then moved to a private one - huge difference! As a CNM student, I trained at a teaching

I can see that being unappealing, for sure! I promise it’s really good, and never caused me any kind of dramatic bathroom episodes.

I’m a little torn on this - on one hand, yay for normalization of abortion, like when she did the same with Cristina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy. I just wish it didn’t have the negative undercurrents to it that it still does, preceding/causing the ending of relationships. I haven’t watched the Scandal episode yet, so I’ll
