I think the powers were a side effect. The only way out of the curse was to destroy every wish or for everyone to renounce it. But a good writer would have spent 30 seconds having Diana explain she would happily trade her powers for Steve to be alive.  Both to Steve and the audience.

Don’t get me wrong, the movie had some great ideas.  And I actually loved the resolution of NOT throwing a fist, but the writing choices, internal logic and what to explain when, was just an absolute mess.  It really could have been a spider-man 2 level movie, but instead it’s just a confusing over-long movie.

The movie had lots of logical flaws but Lord didn’t get Diana’s powers because she and Barbara made their wish when it was still the stone.

I think we all understand HOW it worked.  Our question is WHY?  Every other wish appeared almost immediately and literally, why add all this needless complexity to Steve?  It added nothing.

Her origin in the comic is also completely different and makes a lot more sense regarding a cheetah. I thought the idea of someone wanting to be Diana and then surprisingly getting the powers of Wonder Woman was clever. They should have just stuck with that.

There was also a 5 second shot of a stuffed cat at some point (and I think it was a bobcat FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!!!)

It’s a real shame because it had some great ideas.  But the writing was just a mess.

The body take over is a complete mess.  My guess is that is was put in to support a large part of the movie that ended up being cut and they decided not to reshoot the scenes.  Terrible choice.

They should have dropped the whole cheetah thing. The asking to be like Diana and getting the powers of wonder woman was clever, they should have just leaned into that. The idea that what Barabara lost was her kindness and compassion was also great, they should have expanded on that too and it was a great way to make

A) There is no good reason she became a cat

The monkey’s paw is a fairly well known story about wish granting that actually has costs higher than the wish. That’s what they are referencing.

I have no good explanation for the entire man in another body thing.  It added absolutely nothing to the plot.  Maybe there was more that was cut, but as it stood it was a terrible writing choice.

I’m confident enough in my intellect to tell you it was hard to understand when we should have understood much more about what was going on. Yes, by the end things were clear, but the writing had some real problems. Which is a shame, because it had a lot of great ideas.

The lock scene made me think that her powers were transfering to Cheetah.  It was really confusing.

I don’t think it’s the concept so much as “stars.” Once a network has someone that the audience likes, they will never let that person go. This is large part of why we don’t have anthology shows anymore.

The show had lots of structural problems (powers that once mastered made people god-level).

Enterprise did it much better and this is just a recycled idea.

Discovery really should have finished it’s run before The Expanse started.  The comparison is shocking.  Discovery does not look good at all: Flat characters, poor writing, terrible world building.  The list goes on and on.

I remember thinking about this when the last set of books came out. I don’t think there is any reason why the third set of books couldn’t be set 10 years later. That would be enough time to for the intervening events to happen, and some hair graying and make up changes would easily handle a 10 year change.

This is my favorite book, so I am very excited about this season. But I’m also incredibly sad they aren’t going to do the whole series of books. Can’t they do the final 3 books? They are so good!
