They do continue to top the Steam charts every time it goes on sale... but they have a relatively small dev team and they made a shitload of money at release. I suspect they could have floated development for a decade on the initial influx of sales alone.

I think this situation is especially galling because most people playing on next-gen or PC think the game is, at worst, fine. A lot of folks are putting it on their GOTY short list. It runs fine on the new consoles and the PC folks are accustomed to games running like ass on older hardware.

This is pretty true to my experience with PC games... those were often a crap-shoot in previous decades (yay for near-infinite hardware permutations)... but console games were usually completely playable (even if they weren’t good).

Also... PS4/PS5/XB1/XBSX all use the same architecture (x86) and platform (AMD). The biggest change from last gen to current gen was higher performance overall and storage bandwidth. They are all much more alike than different.

To be absolutely clear... I don’t want anyone to suffer needlessly. If recognizing internal identity as paramount is the thing necessary to allow people to thrive in this world then that must be part of the right path for society... but do we get to pick and choose when it’s appropriate to believe people?!

...and that believing people when they tell you who they are is key to treating people properly in this world.
