I am not sure why there was even a tag. It was still a force play and once the second baseman had the ball with his foot still on the base the play was dead.

Outfielders deek the runner all the time, it just usually isn't effective. Last weekend Adam Jones threw out Pierzinski at second on a ball that would have been a single otherwise. It didn't look as hilarious as this play but it happens.
