I’m still holding out very faint hope for a new Mazda6 with the I6 engine, even though the existence of the 6e continues to shovel dirt on that grave.

The QE2 is awful even in perfect conditions. Driving up to Edmonton for Metallica back in August was 0 to 130 to 0 for two hours straight. Numerous accidents and near-misses. I’d never do that drive in winter if I could help it.
My dad still runs a 1995 GMC Safari, the previous generation, brown on brown with pinstripes. It’s most relegated to oversized cargo runs but I floated it three provinces over when i moved packed to the gills, and while it’s a bit of a running joke within our friends and family, i’d be sad if it was gone.
This is a problem with the 2.5L Turbo in my 2019 Signature as well. I drove from Alberta to Manitoba twice this summer and got a not-great 11.5 L/100km average with cruise set at 127. If i dropped it down 10km/hr the consumption got way better because it wasn’t revving as high.
Greetings, fellow alum!
That’s more my size, but it’s still not a sedan :)
Even with two kids, I have no desire for something this size. Put this powertrain in a new Mazda6 and I’ll be first in line to trade in my CX-5 Turbo for it.
I kinda dig it. Might convince Mrs. Ceedge to replace her aging Golf with this as our commuter/runabout. With the credits in Canada it should be somewhere around $35K (no CDN pricing yet announced as far as I can see)
My next car has better than a 50/50 chance of being a Volvo S60/V60, but it will most likely be leased or a CPO as they’ve got a pretty substantive extended warranty on those (i will likely still extend it/add more coverage though)
There are probably more brands I wouldn’t buy than there are ones I would these days, honestly:
You beat me to it by about an hour. I learned on this exact car except mine was grey, and equipped with a stick. But the wheels, LE badging, everything else: identical.
I love getting to answer this question: a 1987 Plymouth Reliant ‘K’ with crank windows and a 5-speed stick. Grey on grey. It did have A/C but that’s about it for niceties, not even a tape deck (I did put in an aftermarket cd headunit once I fully inherited it from my folks). I drove it until 2009, then my dad commuted…
Yes but Volvo also makes the recharge V60, S60 and now S90, so at least you’ve got choices there, and by all accounts, are great cars, if not a little on the pricey side.
Bah, only those four new colours right? Too bad they come at the expense of electric blue, blaze orange and rift metallica, which are IMO the best colours they had.
Hopefully the 2024 refresh will address some of this. I’m soft-shopping a CT5-V and I’ve only read good things about the road and steering feel. The CT4 is on par with offering a tiny backseat with the Lexus IS and G70 at least. If you want more room the CT5 exists and it does have that TT V6 instead of a four-pot.…
Probably a Mazda3. It drives better than the rest of the class, feels premium and you likely won’t pay ADM’s on it. Also available in 4 or 5 doors.
Pity, i thought the Airflow was an interesting design, but hey, can always use more EV CUVs i guess.
If selling a boat load, or many boat loads of CX-90s finance the development of a new Mazda halo sedan with that I-6 then I’m all for it - and I’d be first in line to trade in my CX-5.
I’ve had two red cars and one black. Will do everything in my power to never buy a black, white, grey or silver car, despite the premium most brands charge for anything that isn’t those four shades.
