It was more of a "let's see how blatantly we can make shit up and still have people believe us", mixed with a few odd but genuine news stories to give the appearance of believability. In other words, it was awesome.

To focus on a totally irrelevant aspect of the story, I was amused and slightly annoyed that when the Nixon quote was played, the audience appeared shocked and appalled that he used the phrase "hit them right in the puss" (and of course, Oliver played right along with it with the Billy Bush joke). As offensive and
