Respectfully disagree here. It is the home of the POTUS - no matter how awful that person may be - and his or her work and home conditions should be optimum. Plus there are hundreds of others working there as well. And they’re doing HVAC work, which is a lot of banging and power tools.

You can’t force people to tip in cash but smart people know to do it. And the govt does assume some level of gratuity in their income but smart people know how to game it. Bottom line is more cash = more you don’t have to tell the IRS about.

In between high school and college (early 1980s) I took 2 years off to figure myself out. I worked in a diner in midtown and delivered food. I made $2 an hour plus tips and was paid for 6 hours a day delivering breakfasts and lunches. A regular day was $40-45 in tips. Rainy days were better.
