I'm from the northwest, and I think we had a good variety of authors in school. Lots of Brit lit, but also lots of American authors. I could have done without the Stephen Crane and Hemingway, though.
US is so weird about that. My first year of high school was in India & they had us read Muhammad ali's biography as well as R.K Narayan but once I came to the US it was all Brit Lit

So, I've not read Mockingbird yet (don't judge me! I'm not from the USA and where I grew up it's considered a significant book, but it doesn't carry the same kind of cultural weight as it does in north america), but it's on my list for this year.
