What about “general Hispanic immigrant character who speaks very quickly”? He did that one 10-15 times.
He seems like a jovial guy and it was a fun episode. Quite different from all the “racist makes demeaning jokes about people with disabilities“ buildup some people have tried to make happen.
I’d go for a B, because there wasn’t a single sketch I wanted to fast forward through (except for the cold open of course).

Ugh the cat thing HAS to be the most over-used jump scare technique in horror. Cats are shitheads for sure and it’s totally in their wheelhouse to do that shit on purpose, but does it need to happen in every horror movie?
The concept of the series isn’t good enough to go on for a lot of seasons like this with just having a different murder every season.
I don’t really understand the logic here. Black folks had it pretty rough in this country* so other marginalized groups should too?
Gotta grade on a curve. A Futurama C is a B when judged against most other TV
I don’t think anyone is surprised; they’re just complaining about the status quo in the comments because, well, it’s one of the few venues there is for venting their spleens about this issue in a place where anyone else might notice or care about it.
This site absolutely has the resources cover lots of things out there. They were able to just fine 10-15 years ago back when it was just a couple of guys at The Onion. It just chooses not to because they don’t want to or care.
No, he’s right. This media-focused outlet continues to focus on this one single piece of mediocre media while it ignores completely all of the good media and major shows airing new episodes out there and there are plenty. Emmy nominated The Bear only got one article. Silo and Black Mirror just one as well. Meanwhile…
Yeah there’s no shortage of interesting stuff to cover on TV (despite the best efforts of the streaming services) but the site doesn’t have the resources to cover any but the most popular or sensationalistic.
It’s more of a “how many times can we keep saying the same things over and over again” issue than a “why are we talking about this” one. This article literally contains nothing new that hasn’t been covered by other outlets, even the A.V. Club itself.
I think this would be a valid point if other major shows got similar attention (I believe we’ve gotten a single article for The Bear), and that the coverage of The Idol didn’t boil down to hate-watching.
I remember the days when the AV Club had the balls, brains, and backbone to stop covering something that was shithouse.
Oh, good: another article about The Idol! I'm sure this will have something of substance in it that hasn't already been covered by every single outlet for the last month!
What does “icky” mean? Grow the fuck up. There is nothing “icky” about this guy making a basicass comment. If anything is “icky” here it’s that one black man is being asked about the behavior of another black man he doesn’t know.
I don’t disagree that there’s no need to keep bringing it back, and at a certain point it starts to resemble the original Star Trek cast doing movies into the 90s, but there’s a level of delusion and self-importance in taking the position that the big mass appeal franchise character should be retired once you’ve done…
The fact people recognized it was AI art is proof - AI art - is art. It has its own look and style. AI art is a perfect medium for a Marvel story about distortions of reality, authenticity and what it means to be “real”. The opening expresses the grotesque nature of the Skrull lurking around and shape shifting. It give…
And this sort of thing is why I’m not fully behind the Writer’s Guild Strike.
Oh no, some internet comments. What a vicious backlash. How will they possibly weather the storm? By waiting a few days.
