Yes! This story is a perfect teaching moment about enthusiastic consent. You don’t want someone going away with bad feelings about their experience, guys? Get enthusiastic consent. You shouldn’t be pushing and pressuring to get what you want.

There some parts to the story that show these two people were on two completely different wavelengths and had a lot of misunderstandings. At one point, she sits on the floor in front of him and says she wanted him to play with her hair. She says he thought she wanted to reciprocate oral sex after he already performed…
She also expressed her feelings to him the next day. He heard her out and apologized. I see no reason to doubt the sincerity of his apology. His statement on the matter affirms that he took her words to heart.
I think that reinforces the point though — the conversation here should be a lot more nuanced and handled more deftly. I’m in my 30s now and I know how to say no, but pretty much throughout my 20s as I explored my sexuality I consistently ran into situations that I didn’t know how to handle. There’s a lot of pressure…
Bullshit.
“And to suggest that sticking your fingers down a woman’s throat on the first hookup is unexpected - please get out more.”
Um...what?
He was absolutely tacky. And we’ve all been there. But to call this an “assault” diminishes assault and removes agency from women. (Not arguing at you - just thinking out loud!)
I can’t fucking stand Caitlin either. And I’m firmly in her age group. Maybe if someone Gen X who isn’t so terrible had written this opinion piece? We wouldn’t all be written off - as a group - as slut shamers.
the editors of Babe were . . . courting a bad faith conversation
Would it have been better if they just published rumors that just happened to be true? They published a women’s account of being pressured into a sexual interaction she wasn’t comfortable with, and one in which the man repeatedly ignored her cues that she was uncomfortable. That’s newsworthy.
She looks so much like her it’s nuts. Even facial expressions and mannerisms. Are those genetic?
Both of those kids look like captain mcsassy pants about everything. Charlotte seems more devious about it where as George seems more tantrumy. I envision George grown up as a sort of modern Louis 16. Just demanding and throwing fits about everything because everything is so beneath him and he’s so sassy. Only it’s…
No, never. She will live forever (I hope).
Is it her fault if he’s clumsy and doesn’t watch where he steps? No one wants a graceless king anyway.
She totally looks like Lilibet too. Loves her.
So you automatically assume that he’s senile because he’s older? Why do I have a feeling that your opinion is going to be quite different 10 years from now?
This isn’t a contest for me: I’ll be voting for Ben Cardin as I have before. He’s a great Senator with a strong liberal track record.
It also requires competency. In what reality do you think that Manning offers that?
‘It was only after some of her male friends “interjected with their disbelief”’
