Oh you’ll get no argument about Quake Champions from me. I mean, I loved playing Quake back in the day, but they decided to make some sort of arena shooter Overwatch-lite hybrid, and they’ve been desperately trying to rebalance and undo that ever since the game launched.

I think maybe it’s because they didn’t want it to eat into Quake Champions, but I’m not sure.

On Steam, only 2.8% of players have the “25 matches” achievement, and the game had around 3k total peak players in the last 24 hours, so I can’t imagine it’s exactly a huge number. I know I only played a few matches before rating it a solid “meh.”

When I first saw the promos I was worried the R-rating and all the cursing was going to lead to a lot of dumb, lazy humor (the way some of the animated movies rely on cursing for lazy grimdark shock value), but it really smartly written.

I’ve never had a problem with that. Your chainsaw automatically refills 1 fuel charge over time, and generally speaking there’s always at least one zombie or imp wandering around to chainsaw.

There is monster infighting, but I honestly have no idea what triggers it, and I’m not even sure if they even do damage to each other.

I definitely understand where you’re coming from: all I really wanted was the same game with more monsters/ways to kill them, more varied environments, and more movement abilities. And I was honestly feeling pretty miserable once I realized how much they changed things up. But once I started leveling up my movement…

My advice: keep at it. It finally connected for me once I was able to get all the tools, and now I’m loving every second of it. Work on quick-swapping between the rocket launcher/ballista/ssg to burn down big enemies quickly, and largely just ignore everything that’s can be taken out with 1 chainsaw fuel (imps, melee…
