2.2 or higher. It uses the push stuff (like Android Market and Chrome to Phone) which I believe was introduced in 2.2.

I got an invite after a while. It's good because Texty now has all these free users they can roll things out to as they increase stability/capacity.

I used to use GTalkSMS, but this is nice because it can be used anywhere Chrome is, like on my Work computer running Linux, my mom's computer running Windows, my Chromebook running Chrome OS, and my friend's computer running Mac OS X.

Right, 'cause Jesus doesn't know but this guy does.

Typically you would root (without flashing any other ROM), then use nandroid to back everything up. Rooting, by itself, doesn't typically mess anything up (in my experience, at least). Nandroid is a low-level thing you can do either from within recovery mode, or from the ROM Manager app.

Ah, I could be wrong on the root part. And yes, it does lower batter consumption for AMOLED displays, as black/dark pixels on AMOLED use less power. However, for other display types, "darker" pixels doesn't lower the power consumption. It's like when you show a black image on a bright screen instead of turning the

I use Feedly (Chrome Web App and Android App). It sycs to my Google Reader feed, but has a pretty awesome interface. It has a night mode in the settings, and I use it that way. :D

I have an HTC EVO 4G as well! I have used CyanogenMod [www.cyanogenmod.com] for ages and it's one of the best. However, I recently looked at MIUI [miui.us] and I think I'm liking it more. It seems to have better battery life and is just different in a good way. I'll probably switch back and forth between the two (I

1.) Better battery life, more frequent updates, newer software, no uninstallable bloatware, different UIs.

That'd be the TIE Advanced, AKA Vader's ship. :D

If I recall, Screen Filter requires root doesn't actually dim the screen, it puts a translucent "filter" over everything. This is so you can have the screen visibly dimmer than the dimmest setting (for driving and whatnot), but won't save any battery.

Hm... perhaps it does it by MAC address? That would make more sense, anyway. But of course a MAC address could be spoofed. Anywho, this whole thing is being blown waaaaaay out of proportion. "It's an epidemic!" they cry. Bah.

Do you mean Tie Advanced, or X-Wing?

I posted this below, but here it is for you, too. :)

Just use Google services for your mail/contacts/calendar. Evolution can sync w/those, so that covers that. Banshee can sync music and videos w/Android. Shotwell can import from Android devices, but I'm not sure about syncing.
