This might be the best article I’ve written on Kotaku. It’s amazing a company would spend money on R&D and to market the launch of the Vita, and then pretty much ignore it within 3 months of release. And that memory card nonsense pretty much made it DOA.

Exactly, they raised their capital through Kickstarter, instead of going through the VC’s because they would have asked hard questions. Using Kickstarter, Ouya didn’t have to answer the hard questions, and just produce exactly what they said they would produce, and Ouya did.

There is a horrible amount of people defending the Ouya so I had to back you up on this one.

It has been a commercial failure. That’s the scope of the term. You’ve gotten use out of it which is great but that’s anecdotal.

It wasn’t a financial failure at all, but it was a failure in terms of actually being memorable or useful to consumers.
The people behind Ouya made a load of money but basically anyone wanting to use it to play games in the long run got screwed, and from the sound of it, so did the game developers. I never really

By “parallel universe” you mean “bizarro universe where shitty microconsoles with ancient cell phone tech in them is a top seller”.

I really thought that this and the N-Gage were destined for greatness.

I am in the same boat. I saw it and knew it was shit, and tried to tell everybody.

Your detractors are entertaining. Ouya was supposed to be an android based gaming platform... Kinda pointless because of the frequency at which android hardware evolves. You can buy a decent tablet and a bluetooth controller (like a dualshock 3 or dualshock 4), and you would be still a lot better off than buying a

They made a profit because their production costs were almost entirely subsidized by the Kickstarter campaign.

So glad I didn’t waste my money on this thing and waited it out. It has become both a disappointment in performance, and now a screwing to the devs that it was supposed to benefit.

When i think android i do not think my gaming platform of choice i think free to play and microtransactions and games that really lack ambition. To be honest very few games i would want to play on a mobile let alone a tv. Mad thing is power wise phones and tablets now pack a punch and even with touch controls they are

I can’t believe people actually thought the Ouya was going to be anything but a total failure. I got called some really hateful shit for pointing it out back in the day, too.

What do you think a correctly-executed microconsole would look like?

Aaand you forgot they’re quite profitable without making AAA video games. In fact, AAA investment was going to make them less profitable. That’s why they’re getting out of it.

stay classy Konami

At least they didn't call it 'Unsharted'

Hope so, its ridiculous that they can come to a different country each 4 years, get tax exemptions because they are "non-for profit" yet they hold over a billion dollars and have a clear revenue scheme as a corporation. Along with these corruption allegations....shit company all round and probably not "all that good"

Formula 1 Management's not in danger of bankruptcy. In fact, the higher ups (including the teams) created an elaborate system to keep the rich forever rich. It's the small teams that are falling like flies.
