The plain old Cooper S was supercharged with a getrag 6 speed. Yes, the gp was special, but the supercharger/manual combo could be had at lower trims. That's why he's saying it's not what made it special. The reduction pulley and tune making more power, while ditching the back seats made it special.

Miatas go for 7500 now. Between NY and VA, car gurus shows 8 s2ks for sale, ranging between 17,995 and 42000 (for a CR). Local Craigslist has one for 20000. Clean title, accident or no, this is a fair price. 

Like it or not, it’s a good price for an s2k. Maybe ditch the kit for some stock panels from a junkyard and you're golden. Or drive it and don't care what the outside looks like.
