Man, you can get through a lot of school and still be shaky on the language. A lot of my grad school peers were.

It also kind of blows off whole categories of Asian people. Like, in my home city there’s a large community of Hmong and Karen and various other Southeast Asian groups that came here not having any of those things, and the “model minority” crap doesn’t cut them any slack on the troubles they’ve had as a result.

Here in MN I’ve actually seen a lot of expressions of support between black and Native groups, in both directions, with regards to police violence and the like. It’s been really cool to witness that.

It becomes a stranger’s business when their kid is under your supervision. I think it’s reasonable for you not to answer, so long as you understand that the stranger will draw their own conclusions and act accordingly.

I’m 28 years old and I’ve never just “encountered” a firearm. There’s no “pretending” here. Sure, tell them to avoid them, but you don’t need to take them to the gun range and habituate them to them to do that.
