Its a dumb concept typical of people who have not done any basic readings on the subject of motivation in games. Go play it. Tell me how compelling it is to have the game arbitrarily pulled out from under you by the actions of other players and then come back and tell me how wrong I am - that the gimmick of this being

Is he hitching on the highway of tears?

Hey, a computerized garbage can! And me with a car full of used baby diapers.

Well, if the kickstarting involved literal kicking, I’d go for it.

Nobody reads the fine print. I just clicked accept terms so I could get to the overhyped Molyneaux game!

Peter Molyneaux is a myth, I don’t believe he exists. He’s a ghost-story used by parents to keep their children from going into game design.

Hey, that baby just bought some meth!

Fine. It has value as a performance piece. Not as a game that I would have any interest in participating in. YMMV.

Thats a good point; it has been done successfully in games like Left4Dead, but that was coming from an experienced studio with a lot of resources.

Yes, and that means they are too emotionally involved in the material to be able to be unbiased and skeptical about how such a mechanic will actually play out.

There have been games that once they were played they deleted themselves so they could not be played again. This is the exact same thing in a multiplayer form.

No I make my decisions based on all available evidence. Now what decision are we talking about? I’m not planning to buy this game *right now* because its not at all compelling. If it ever becomes compelling, chances are I will be too late to get in on it because everyone will have griefed the servers and it will be

You can always ‘work around’ a scenario by saying ‘what if the enemy had these powers specifically designed to overcome whatever advantage the humans had.’

So yes, if they had those powers, and they all turned into a collective strategic brain and knew precisely how to cripple the humans and overcome all the weapons

People have tar filled moats, electric fences, concrete and strontium-90. Yes the rats can do damage, and then they will all be killed by something as pathetically simple as broken glass mixed with warfarin and peanut butter - once we are mobilized against the threat we would scorch the earth and live in sterile

Good for you, thanks for answering a question I didn’t ask.

Go read any book about game design and you’ll have a whole plethora of player motivations beyond ‘feel impotent to affect outcomes.’

That presumes this game has a plot beyond ‘you’re it’. You probably pushed the button in reddit too.

Yeah, usually the servers shut down because everyone STOPS playing.

These are the types of concepts design school students toss around as innovative class projects because they can’t be arsed to either think about what games are actually supposed to do, or read a couple post-mortems on gamasutra. We know exactly how this game ends, it ends with multiplayer being summarily turned off

After dozens of similar articles, about people beating Demon’s Souls with a guitar hero controller, I am with each new exploit becoming progressively more put off by the idea that I should even care that someone did it with a different game and a different controller. How do I block these from my feed? Do you think a
