I mean... there’s basically no way to see one gigantic behemoth buying another gigantic behemoth as being a “pro consumer” move.

Capitalism is hell.

Remember 20 years ago when the United States sued Microsoft over anti-trust laws? It’s crazy to see how monopolies are now the norm aNd ThEy’Re GoOd FoR tHe EcOnOmY aCtUaLy.

23:59 - We will not morally shame Activision-Blizzard...

And then Disney buys Microsoft.  And then Amazon buys Disney.  And then the Vogons demolish the Earth to make way for a hyperspace bypass.

Well that would explain why Kotick hasn’t gone juuuust yet (no doubt will get a massive percentage of the price) and why Phil is so diplomatic about the answers he gave about behaviours at the place.

It’s a passive aggressive way of telling someone that they’re only unsuccessful because they didn’t try hard enough.

What an insipid way to say that class and corporate solidarity mean more to them than advocating for human rights in their industry.

Let me just translate this from corporate speak to English:

While I do appreciate that they’re being open and honest about their own problems I do feel like they are also somewhat permitting it by saying “I mean we did some bad things too so we can’t call them out on their bad things or we’re being hypocrites.”. No that’s not hypocritical. you screw up, make mistakes, make

Oh will you just stop pretending that Rowling is some innocent writer just caught out of her depth and not someone doubling down time and time again on her transphobia even though she’s had years to actually check the veracity of the most basic bullshit she spouts.

No, actually, it won’t be normalized until people like you stop getting upset every time you see the word “trans.”  Shoving somebody’s gender under the rug is the opposite of normalizing it.

Given her own statement that appearing on the show could let her send ‘a positive message to the nerdy trans girl who wants to be on the show too.’” I think she’d be pretty happy Kotaku was highlighting her trans status in this situation.

Acknowledging her trans identity is worlds different from harassing her for it.

BOTW isn’t going to suffer that same fate because of what the game actually did for gaming.

Think of how many BOTW clones and open world games that cribbed heavily from BOTW design philosophy.

THAT’S what makes an all-timer.  Something that significantly added to the medium as a whole.  Twilight Princess, while a good

I guess my issue with this metric is the idea that everyone who thinks BotW (or any other game on a list) is better than 99.999% of videogames is somehow also blind to any flaws in the game; a lot of these flaws you’re talking about are just preference (shrines, bosses, etc.).

Nah. Breath of The Wild is a cornerstone game. A benchmark. It transcends being a game to being an experience. It’s a lifer in the pantheon of classic games.

People considered BotW an all-timer before 2 was even announced (myself included), what would the performance of the sequel do to detract/add to that?

Nintendo is a developer who’s found their niche in the gaming world (making family-friendly games with marketable characters) and has become very good at what they do. They seem to understand that they’re not going to win over everyone, which is fine, because they’re winning over enough of the right type of people.

Ha! Three Super Smash Bros. games on the list and none of them is Melee! Take that, competitive community!
