I’m basically the David Tracey of Land Rover’s so it won’t be a shocker if I say I’ll drive my trusty 17 year old Land Rover Discovery II Td5 from the UK to The Netherlands and Germany. Yes, I’ve said it, trusty! It’s been very reliable, and I’ve taken it from deserts to polar conditions. If it does break I can fix it…
Despite being a petrolhead and automotive designer I have to admit I love my 2000 Discovery. It drives like a tractor (it’s a diesel too) and looks like a statement against design but couldn’t go without. Partly because I know every inch and use it for overland trips and off-roading.
Next year both drivers are still under contract. In 2019 however remains to be seen.
a 2nd hand XC90I have a 7 seater Discovery but going to add a 7 seater Volvo XC90 to the fleet. Even the older version is great, especially the D5 diesel engine but that never came to the US. Still, I would recommend a used XC90
It’s all about moderation. I have lifted my daily drive Discovery II by only 1" and fitted tires only 1 size up (255-55-r18 to 255-60-r18). It’s on new springs at the front and the original airsuspension+spacers. It only handles better and with 1" wheel spacers to further improve the stance it looks and handle even…
You are absolutely right, Discovery Series II. Owning one myself I was surprised he kept up.
Obviously only If I am flying to Asia or Australia, not a domestic US flight. :)
Good list. I like Singapore as a layover. Not only is is quick to go in the city, the airport itself is pleasant. It has green, a cinema and decent food.
I think the wheels are the least of the car’s problems. Completely over designed incoherent design.
Discovery II owner and enthusiast here. Only the doors and tail door is aluminium the rest is steel, but as the rest (axles, ladder chassis etc) is pretty heavy it isn’t too top heavy. The hydraulic anti-roll system ACE makes it corner really well and with very little roll. They are very nice machines, the diesel is…
Too much Co2 in this, another dirty VW
In both pictures the state trooper is parked a little sideways with his wheels pointed towards the interstate, funny, here in europe I’m pretty sure the police point their wheels to the side of the road when they stop someone on the shoulder. They do that so that if someone hits them from behind the police car flies…
It might just be 3 engines with 2 different tunes each. Also it’s possible that not all engines discussed are for all markets. For the EU you need a diesel and a 4 cylinder both might not be available for the US.
PS I’m Dutch and know both of them a little.
They know each other very well, for years and this is just a little friendly teasing. This wasn’t live so no problem. It goes both ways btw. hey crack jokes with Max too.
My best one:
Competitors of Opel are making money in Europe. Part of Opel’s losses are development costs being dumped on Opel that benefit the rest of GM. There is no real benefit of Opele making a profit for tax reasons. They done it to SAAB before. If they sell Opel they will just need another scapegoat for their development…
