I’ve got a theory that because people keep cars longer (combination of stagnating wages, vehicles being better/more reliable) people want them to fit their lifestyle longer. The regular cab pickup is dead because who wants to be tied to that for ~10 years if you might have a kid three years from now?

Shelby did something similar with the 1986 and 1987 Shelby GLHS models. The base cars (Omni/Charger) only had an 85 MPH speedo. Instead of creating a new speedo, they just added a little sticker at the bottom of the speedo that continued around to 135 mph.
