That yellow is atrocious. A car doesn’t need to be neon piss colored to be interesting or “fun.”

Did you actually read the entire article?
Can someone help fill me in on why two motors is that much less efficient? I thought that like with the dual-motor teslas you’ll get more efficiency/longer range with more and/or bigger motors, since they all have to work proportionally less hard.
Have you seen the Corolla Hatchback? This looks nothing like it. The Corolla Hatchback is closer to a Matrix than that. This thing looks closer to a RAV4, but actually looks more like a Ford Escape than anything else.
“Looking at the cutaway of the car, I am a disappointed that BMW didn’t seem to be willing to be bothered to package the components to allow for a frunk, which many of its competitors managed to do. These frunkless EVs feel a bit lazy, packaging-wise, to me.”
IMO the major issue is that the battery is the majority of the cost of an EV. So who buys the battery? If you still pay outright for it, then the EV company has to front the cost of replacing worn out batteries.
The Matrix is much better than this abomination
You add alot of weight and complexity, and reduce battery volume by adding in how you can use the same shoeboxes between makes and models.
It is so sad that the car itself has a frown.
Seriously, who designs this, looks at the front and goes, “yup, this is exactly what we want”
OMG, this thing makes me so sad inside. The absolute nothingness of it all is actually a bit frightening.
This looks so much like a RAV4 that I was wondering if the wrong images were posted with the article.
interesting...
This is why I always come to the comments.
You missed a few things which any old trucker could’ve told you. First off, in trucker parlance, these are called “Maxis”, as opposed to the non-spring brakes, which were just called “cans”. On your typical 18-wheelers, you’ll find maxis on only the last drive axle and the 2 trailer axles, never on the steer, and…
That’s only for important stuff like trains.
Great post as always David.
Wasn’t this always Elon’s goal? I’m pretty sure he said from the outset that he didn’t want Tesla to be the only EV in town, that he wanted to force major manufacturers to compete with him. It seems he was successful.
The Wikipedia entry suggests that some Ford dealers used an incorrect leasing form that left open the opportunity for lessees to buy the vehicle at the end of the lease, allowing a few Ranger EVs to escape into the wild.
Right, maybe I should have expanded what I was thinking in my head a little more when it comes to driving a BEV hard other than just the impact on range. I have hit thermal limits which hampers acceleration.
Imagine a Ranger EV repowered with LiFePO4 batts, or LI batts. More capacity, less weight, providing a one-two punch that doubly delivers in added range and increased load capacity. Precious little downside there. All it takes is money, honey.
